Smoke is increasing in southern Idaho thanks to multiple lightning fires that started Wednesday south of Glenns Ferry. The largest of which is still active and burned over 20,000 acres.  Elsewhere, the 1.7 acre Lily Grade Fire has been controlled, and the 5,300 acre Soldier Fire is listed as contained at this point. The Coonskin Fire however, remains active and uncontained after scorching 20,000 acres west of Twin Falls.

The University of Idaho and the University of Phoenix want more time to talk about a deal and the State Board of Education will meet Friday morning to discuss an extension which could immediately net the U of I $5 million.  If the State Board signs on, the parties would have until June 10, 2025, to reach a deal that would move the for-profit online giant under the U of I’s ownership.

A verdict has been reached in a 42 year old murder in Idaho.  A canyon county jury found David Dalrymple guilty of the rape and murder of 9 year old Daralyn Johnson who went missing on February 21, 1982 while she was on her way to school in Nampa.  The 66 year old man will be sentenced September 6th and faces life in prison.

Let the racing begin.  This weekend, it’s the 49th annual Idaho Regatta along the Snake River in Burley.  Racing happens Saturday and Sunday at the River’s edge marina and golf course.  Spectators will see boats reaching speeds up to 146 miles an hour.

Idaho could soon see a high-profile murder trial, but not until 2025.  Bryan Kohberger was back in a Latah County courtroom yesterday for a brief hearing where a timeline for his upcoming trial was discussed.  Kohberger faces four counts of murder.   The trial could take up to 3 months.

The first annual Idaho Bowl kicks off tomorrow at Albertsons Stadium in Boise.  The best 6th, 7th, and 8th graders square off in this game where they are surrounded by top-notch coaches and facilities and will compete amongst the best athletes in the state.

With southern Idaho growing, changes are coming to the Boise Airport waiting area with a transition expected later this summer.
